How to Measure for Replacement Patio Chaise Lounge Slings

Measuring your chaise lounge for a new replacement sling is simple. Aside from picking a durable outdoor fabric, accurate measurement is the most critical step. Follow this guide to ensure a perfect fit.

Essential Rules Before You Begin

  • Use a Soft Tape Measure: Always use a flexible cloth or tailor’s tape measure. A rigid metal tape measure cannot accurately follow the curves of the chair frame.

  • Measure Installed Slings Only: Never measure an old sling after it has been removed from the frame. Over time, used fabric stretches and loses shape.

  • Do Not Add Extra Allowance: Measure strictly edge-to-edge as instructed. Do not add inches for seam allowances or fabric hidden inside the rails—those calculations are automatically factored in during production.

  • Measure Away From the Ends: Take all width measurements a few inches in from the tips of the sling rails. Rail ends often bow or bend unevenly over time due to body weight.

  • Round Up to the Nearest 1/4": If a measurement falls between fractions, always round up.

Step-by-Step Measuring Process

Preparation Ensure the metal sling rails holding the fabric are tightly attached to the frame. Check and tighten any loose bolts before taking measurements.

Measure the Chaise Back (Top & Bottom Width)

  1. Top Width: Measure across the back section, a few inches down from the top end of the rail. Measure from the inner edge of the metal rail where the fabric enters, straight across to the opposite rail edge.

  2. Keep the tape measure taut and flat against the installed fabric.

  3. Bottom Width: Repeat the process near the bottom of the backrest section (a few inches above the hinge or curve).

  4. Record both measurements to the nearest 1/4" (rounding up).

Measure the Chaise Seat (Top & Bottom Width)

  1. Top Width: Measure across the top of the seat section near the hinge bend, a few inches in from the joint.

  2. Bottom Width: Measure across the foot of the seat section, a few inches up from the bottom rail ends.

  3. Measure edge-to-edge where the fabric disappears into the metal channels.

  4. Record both measurements to the nearest 1/4" (rounding up).
